The Basics: How to Prevent Acne

Eight out of ten teenagers struggle with acne and can continue to have breakouts well into their twenties. Some people can treat their acne by simple washing their face daily while others need to use stronger prescribed medications. Every person's skin is different but there are some simple ways to try to control acne. The first and easiest way to prevent acne is to just stop touching your face! When you touch your face you spread around bacteria while also transferring the germs from your fingertips onto your face. This definitely won't cure acne but it can help make sure that breakouts are less often and severe. The second way to help prevent acne is to wash your face at least once a day and drink plenty of water. Some people may only need to wash their face at night while others may require it twice, once in the morning and then again at night. The third way is to use acne medications or face washes. There are plenty of drugstore acne washes and medications that you can purchase from target and there are also stronger treatments you can get online, like Proactive, or from the doctor. I recommend trying the different things in the drugstore before resorting to more expensive treatments like Skin I.D. or Proactive.
When I was younger I tried plenty of  drugstore treatments but found that they just weren't working for me. I eventually tried Skin I.D. which is from Neutrogena. You go online and take a survey about your skin and get a personalized system of products to used based on your answers. I saw results in about two weeks and it really worked well. However, it is very expensive and lately I have been seeing better drugstore options. So I stopped using Skin I.D. and have gone back to using Neutrogena drugstore products.
